The SAS (Slot Accounting System) committee is charged with i) maintaining the industry-standard SAS messaging protocol, ii) providing documentation to support implementation and certification of said SAS protocol and iii) developing an end of life program resulting in the cessation of all support for SAS by January 2010.
Scope:
The Scope of the SAS Committee is limited to the technologies necessary and sufficient to implement the SAS protocol with the sole purpose of such protocol being to enable interconnected devices to communicate and interoperate with each other in a standard manner.
The Scope shall not include (a) any Enabling Technologies that may be necessary to make or use any Product or portion of a Product that utilizes the SAS protocol; or (b) the implementation of other published specification(s) referred to in the body of the SAS protocol description but which are not explicit component(s) thereof; or (c) any Product(s), portions of Product(s), or combination(s) of Product(s) themselves.
For the purpose of this Charter, Enabling Technologies and/or Products include, but are not limited to, applications such as games, bonusing, progressives, player tracking, player authentication, application content authentication, accounting, device or game security, encryption, and other technologies or products of a similar nature.
The committee shall:
- Provide a progressively restrictive plan that will document and facilitate an end of life for SAS protocol support by Jan 2010.
- Solicit input from GSA members, GSA committees and industry groups.
- Maintain the test Scripts and Tool kit to support the implementations of the protocol.
- Ensure backwards compatibility at all times.
- Not make any modification / enhancements that affect the accounting meter model.
- Limit the enhancements of the SAS protocol to regulatory changes.
- Ensure that modifications to existing polls will not affect message and response content but additional information may be appended to the original message.
- Request Board approval for any additional informational meters or the creation of any new messages.
- Present to the board a revised charter and annual plan at the beginning of each calendar year that are consistent with GSA board directives.
