The Official Newsletter of GSA - Fall 2007

A Message From the President

G2E 07 is rapidly approaching and once again the industry will be able to witness GSA standards at work. This year, GSA standards are more prevalent than ever!

We will be demonstrating products that use the Gaming Device Standard (GDS) that link various peripherals to an Electronic Gaming Machine (EGM). We will also be highlighting the System-to-System (S2S) protocol that had a significant impact on the Class II gaming environment and will be extended to allow a multitude of new systems to connect together.

Operators Forum

GSA hosted an Operators Forum to discuss the global organization's involvement in the rapidly emerging world of server-based gaming on August 22, 2007 at the MGM MIRAGE. The event featured a wide range of speakers, operators and manufacturers, including Don Karrer of Penn National Gaming and Lyle Bell from Seminole Gaming, who spoke about the process of operator implementation. A manufacturers roundtable discussed standards implementation from an OEM's perspective and included participants from Aristocrat Technologies, Atronic Americas, Bally Technologies, Cyberview Technology, International Game Technology (IGT), Konami Gaming and WMS Gaming. Also, GSA's has recently created a new committee called the Operator's Advisory Committee (OAC) and an update can be found in the Technical Committee Update.

Introduction to the Certified G2S Engineer Program

Chuck Berg, GSA Affiliate Professor of Gaming Technology at the UNLV International Gaming Institute and Russ Ristine, Vice President at Radical Blue Gaming, Inc will present "An Introduction to the Certified G2S Engineer Program" at G2E in Las Vegas. Jointly developed by UNLV and GSA, the Certified G2S Engineer Program is part of a comprehensive training and certification program designed to accelerate the implementation and adoption of GSA standards throughout the gaming industry. The program is targeted at development engineers, quality assurance and compliance test engineers, engineering managers, and operations engineers working for game and systems equipment manufacturers, casino properties, regulators, and independent labs.

After an overview presentation on G2S and its machine and communication models, we will present a "live" demonstration of a working G2S-compliant EGM. Using protocol monitoring tools developed by Radical Blue Gaming, we will demonstrate the EGM discovery process, followed by monetary transactions and game play activities that generate events and meter updates of interest to a number of different back-office system hosts. After the demo, there will be a discussion outlining how G2S makes all of this possible. Then the event will conclude with a brief description of the training and certification program offered by UNLV.

Date: November 14, 2007
