The Official Newsletter of GSA - Fall 2007

A Message From the President

G2E 07 is rapidly approaching and once again the industry will be able to witness GSA standards at work. This year, GSA standards are more prevalent than ever!

We will be demonstrating products that use the Gaming Device Standard (GDS) that link various peripherals to an Electronic Gaming Machine (EGM). We will also be highlighting the System-to-System (S2S) protocol that had a significant impact on the Class II gaming environment and will be extended to allow a multitude of new systems to connect together.

For the first time various EGM vendors and System vendors will demonstrate interoperability using the Game-to-System (G2S) standard. Although this standard has been released at the beginning of January 2007, the industry is at various stages of implementation. There is a significant amount of engineering work and effort involved in moving to this new standard, but as can be seen from the industry scorecard (a copy can be found on our web site at: ), many of our members have announced that they will be launching products very soon.

This demonstration is important for operators to show that the industry is rapidly moving towards full interoperability (The ability of software and hardware on multiple machines from multiple vendors to communicate). It will demonstrate that vendors have fully embraced the power of open standard network technology and are rapidly moving towards multi-service networks - bringing the power of the internet to your floor.

Each vendor will now start to refine their own products and offer various enhanced or new service(s). Operators can look forward to a whole new world of functionality never seen before and it will definitely put them more in touch with their customer - the player.

Our industry has forever changed and the player experience will soon reach a new dimension. Thanks to all our members who have made this possible and are working hard to put standards at work. Come and visit us at G2E booth #3783.
