A Message From the President

Dear GSA Members,

2006 is proving to be another successful year for GSA. Having reached our membership renewal goal and with international support and strong desire to further GSA standards, the GSA Board has elected to recruit a Technical Director to focus on the full time development and support of GSA standards. We are pleased to welcome Marc McDermott in this capacity and are looking forward to a sustained and productive relationship. Besides managing the various technical committees, some of Marc's additional responsibilities will be to create and maintain project plans, establish a GSA standards release schedule that will assist the industry with the their R&D cycle, establish technical profiles, and ensure certification scripts are accurate and in line with the latest standard releases.

In other news, I am excited to announce GSA's Technical committee's are rapidly progressing. A charged atmosphere is probably best used to describe the activities within the various committees. In particular, GSA's newest committee, Game-to-System (G2S), which has focused on the merging of GSA's Best of Breed and IGT's SuperSAS protocols, is blazing forward. Just four months after initial discussions regarding the merger, consensus was reached and the committee was able to come to agreement on the ten core classes. This is a major achievement for the industry. While the committee continues to push forward on development of the application classes, GSA's technical writers are hard at work finalizing the documents for membership review and final publication.

If we look forward to G2E in November, the industry will witness GSA standards on the floor. This brings an end to the dueling protocols story and instead demonstrates a united global industry front. The adoption of open standards will drive innovation throughout the gaming industry. I await 2007 with excitement, as it will be the year to witness next generation products being built on top of GSA foundations. What a great job our members have done by participating and driving this unified solution.

I would like to thank all of GSA's new and returning members. Your participation and support are what make open standards a reality. I look forward to walking the path of success with each of you as we shape the future of our industry together.

Kind regards,

Peter DeRaedt
GSA President
