As G2E 08 is now behind us, it is time to reflect on what we have witnessed. Standards are having a profound effect on the products being produced.
New and unique solutions are being developed that are zooming in on providing a better customer experience. Additionally, there were a flurry of industry discussions by both operators and manufacturers related to the new network infrastructure that is required to reap the full benefits of these new product offerings.
It is that time of the year again when we look back on what we have achieved and focus on our 2009 objectives as determined by our Board of Directors.
2008 was another year of great achievements. GSA opened offices in Macau and released significant updates of the various protocols standards. We have been very fortunate to be able to welcome two additional members to our team - Ethan Tower (Protocol Director) and Line Robichaud (Educational Director). GSA also launched the long awaited certification program and its web interface. The website lists those labs that have been ISO 17025 accredited and meet GSA-defined requirements for conformance testing within the GSA Certification Program.
In November we officially launched the GSA University and the website lists the upcoming the 2009 off-site course schedule. Various classes are being offered around the world. We offer executive overview classes as well as in-depth technical training classes.
Our goals for 2009 are to solidify the certification program, expand the standards to address more industry requirements, grow the education program, to become an ANSI certified developer and be more active in Asia and Australia.
Note that GSA will host the second 'GSA in Europe' sessions in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The first day will provide an overview and high-level update about GSA's achievements.
During our Annual Meeting at G2E we recognized two individuals who have made a significant impact on our success. Since Marc McDermott joined GSA as Technical Director, Marc has done an outstanding job managing the committees and driving the standards forward. Also, Randy Hedrick from IGT was instrumental in revitalizing the discussions between GSA and IGT that resulted in IGT rejoining the organization.
I like to wish all of our members a wonderful festive season and we are looking forward to another great year.
Peter DeRaedt, GSA President
